Out of the blue I had a call from London Thames Express telling me that they had thousands of readers and the paper went out to the likes of Sainsburies, Tesco etc. and would l like to advertise my product (Ginseng Creams) for a meer 118 incl vat. Yip too good to be true, should have set the alarm bells off then.
They took my card details and everything seemed to be in order. They sent me the pulication and actually charged twice for the same publication. (testing the water to see if I could be scammed I guess) they did refund that. (on the card statement it only shows newspaper advertising Derby GB) Then the fun started.
I am building a case to take to trading standards and OFT about this company, the problem is that there are about 70 newspapers in the same office who pass your card details around.
I have added some links at the bottom as part of my research which have exposed these fraudsters. I have contacted watchdog also but not heard anything as yet.


Then I started to get adverts which I never ordered yet my card was being charged time and time again, some as much as 385. What the other newspapers were doing is sending me by email confirmation of sale and when I emailed back saying there was a mistake I never ordered advertising they said your colleague did (I am the only person in the company!) they printed the advert which was of dreadful quality and I would never have allowed this to go out anyway.
They racked up about 2000 and even used my card to order a take away at Jumbo House Coventry, I researched and found it is 13mins from the newspaper premises.

Then never answer emails and the tel number is 01332676449 I asked them to send me ALL the invoices which correspond to the money they took, they did send invoices, non of them (apart from the first one) have my company name or address correct. One of them from Home Counties Times even had an address I was at over a year ago, which shows me that they had just googled it to get the address for an invoice.
Home Counties Times called me to say I had won a business achievement award and for 200 they would publish me on the front page and 11 months on their website plus a glass award delivered to my address. Needless to say non of this happened. They did publish I had won an award in the back of their paper!

I stopped my credit card but HSBC are still going to make me pay. This will now be a new dispute, as HSBC posted to me a photocopy of the advert (regardless I never ordered it) and a copy of the invoice (even though the address and company name is not mine) and the slip that the newpaper printed off from the credit card machine. The invoice is a lot lower that what they have actually charged my card and still HSBC tell me I am liable as I gave my card the one time.
HSBC stated that because I gave my card to the merchant, the regulations of Visa card (which we as customers are NOT allowed to see, that is they are allowed to use my card details if they provide evidence they have given a service. Ie they print your advert without your permission but as this is evidence you get charged because YOU gave them the original authorisation, regardless of the fact you only agreed to one advert.

There is no way to get to anyone responsible. The accounts dept say take it up with the paper, the paper say the accounts took the money. I have also found out that this lot are part of Wyvern Media who are know to be scammers.
I have called the police in Derby and the police state it is up to Visa credit card to contact them not me as they will pay me back and I will no longer be a victim. Today with this new evidence of me having to pay I am the victim and therefore will be contacting the Derby Police an Coventry police as this is where the newspapers are located.

Looking at some of the papers it has an address in Coventry, identical street numbers but different postcodes!!

I have just been told that they have used my card to advertised landrovers!!!! The bank have agreed to pay back this one as they said it clearly wasnt my business.

Im new here and just realised that the from: company part is for the offending company, C&G Medicare Ltd are the victims not the fraudsters. How can I change this to reflect JGPC Publications as the criminals.

Many thanks for this - have just been trawling through my invoices as i (stupidy) agreed to 2 ads-1 in lancashire advertiser and 1 in north thames press - and i have just seen another 2 invoice charges on my statement. very poor quality publication - DO NOT GET INVOLVED!. More worrying is the volume of calls i have been having from same sounding publications - south east press, midlands press, lifestyle today - 2 of which said i had agreed to advertise with them and even read my ad out to me. When i have asked them to email me details they have then asked what part of the country i was in and got out the call by saying it was the same company name but a diff part of the country and they apologised for bothering me!
As i ssid before stay away - i am now going to change my card details
